Midwest Zone Sends 31 Teams to 2017 JOs!
Congrats to all the Midwest teams who competed at the 2017 Junior Olympics. Spartan Water Polo 18U girls came away as our top finisher at 31st. On the boy’s side, Rockford Aquatic 18U took 34th.

Clayton Water Polo Recognized as Master’s Club of the Year
In July, Clayton Water Polo Club, based in Missouri, was recognized as the 2016 USA Water Polo Master’s Club of the Year. Alan Stiffelman, longtime club organizer, received the award on behalf of the club at the USA Water Polo recognition ceremony in Irvine, CA. Clayton Water Polo Club is one of the longest running water polo clubs in the United States with a history dating back to the 1960s. The club is a strong representative of the Midwest and provides playing opportunities for master’s athletes in the Missouri area. Congratulations Clayton Water Polo Club!
Inaugural Show-Me Showdown Held in Rolla, MO
The first annual Show-Me Showdown was held at Fugitive Beach, near Rolla, MO, on August 5-6. This popular submerged quarry was turned into a water polo course, and seven teams from across the Midwest came to participate. While the tournament was cut short by bad weather, fun was had by those that were able to participate. The hope is to grow this tournament in coming years and to strength collaboration with USAWP. The tournament is organized by the water polo team at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Mitch Griffin of Parkway West High School was chosen as the St. Louis All-Metro POTY. Here is the corresponding St. Louis Post-Dispatch story. Also, congratulations to those players selected on the first team and second team All-Metro Teams!
2018 Midwest Zone Junior Olympic Qualifier Dates Set
In order to get a jump on Junior Olympics next summer... the Midwest Zone has set the 2018 JO Qualifier dates: June 15–17, 2018 in St. Louis, MO. The National Junior Olympics tournament will head back to Northern California to San Jose and Palo Alto areas, with Stanford University serving as the Championship venue. The dates for the NJO tournament are July 21-24 and July 26-29 for session one and two respectively. JO Expo will occur on July 20 and 25th.

Olympian Genai Kerr Named USA Water Polo Sport Growth Manager
As USA water polo looks to surge its efforts towards the sport’s expansion, the addition of 2004 Olympian and water polo ambassador Genai Kerr to the staff is only natural. Already concreated his name in water polo communities around the country, Kerr will continue as a major presence throughout the United States to help enhance the game where it already exists while bringing the sport to areas with little or no water polo footprint. USA Women Win World University Games GOLD!
On Aug 29th 2017, the USA Women's National Team won GOLD at the 2017 World University Games following a 16-9 win over Hungary. Team USA finishes play in Taiwan at 8-0, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 127-38. See here for the full story.
2017-2018 USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program Camps Now Open For Registration
The camps serve as a tremendous development opportunity and are an essential step in joining an athlete's respective zone team. These camps are open to ALL USAWP Silver or Gold athletes. For Registration information for the Midwest zone, click here
USA Water Polo Announces 2016-2017 Academic All-Americans
USA Water Polo is proud to announce close to 1,000 athletes for the Academic All-Americans, 57 of which are coming out of the Midwest region. Congratulations to all the athletes recognized for their hard work in the classroom. Student-athletes needed a 3.60 GPA on a scale of 4.00 to qualify; those that received a 4.00 GPA or higher were honored as outstanding achievers. Full list here.
